B.C. Rain completed the 2022 season with a 4-6 record. Last year B.C. Rain finished sixth in Class 5A region one with a 4-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Red Raiders won as many games as in any season since 2016. B.C. Rain was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Red Raiders want to be competitive. They only averaged 17.8 points a game. Since 2010, the B.C. Rain football program has struggled with a record of 35-97. Over the past 25 seasons, B.C. Rain has managed to compile a record of 99-162. Their 38.0% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 5A and 305th in the AHSAA. The Red Raiders are led by head coach Lawrence Yelding who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 11-29 over the past four seasons at B.C. Rain. Under his direction the Red Raiders have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Yelding. The Red Raiders will christen their new stadium when they open the season against Excel. The Red Raiders could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region one this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. B.C. Rain came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year. The Red Raiders open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Excel on Friday, August 25 at Trimmier Park. Last year the Excel Panthers finished with an overall record of 9-2 and in first place in Class 3A region one. The Panthers lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Pike County by a score of 42-14. B.C. Rain and Excel have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Red Raiders have a 1-1-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2022 with Excel winning by a score of 22-18. The Red Raiders return 5A All-State Junior linebacker Ricky Nichols.
